Axiom Brass Quintet Plays at NMU
The Northern Michigan University music department will host a concert featuring the Axiom Brass Quintet at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, in Reynolds Recital Hall. The event is part of the Siril Endowment for Musical Arts.
The Axiom Brass Quintet is an internationally recognized group that features trumpets, tuba, trombone and French horn. Its musical repertoire ranges from jazz and Latin music to string quartet transcriptions. The award-winning group is the only Brass Quintet to win the Chamber Music Yellow Springs competition and the only American group to win the Preis der Europa-Stadt Passau in Germany.
Since its founding, the Axiom Brass Quintet has remained committed to educating and inspiring young audiences. This blend of virtuosic performance and dynamic teaching earned the ensemble the Fischoff Educator Award in 2011. The group will be visiting NMU for a week-long residency. Members will lead classes and lectures for students.
The concert is free for NMU students, $15 for adults and $8 for other students. Tickets are available for purchase at tickets.nmu.edu.
