Powering the economic future of the Upper Peninsula
NMU offered its first business courses more than 100 years ago. Then, as now, the mission of the College of Business is to provide first-class education that not only equips our students to compete, contribute and succeed, but also strengthen the economic prospects of the upper Great Lakes region.
Now, with the help of visionary supporters, a step into the future comes in the form of the new Northern Enterprise Center— a modern venue for business education, a hub for entrepreneurship, a powerhouse training center for tomorrow’s business leaders and an engine of regional economic development and transformation.
The center will be made possible by gifts, and fundraising is now under way. We hope to begin construction in 2021. This innovative building will be located on the southeast side of the academic mall, near the McClintock Building.

The enterprise center will…
- Bring together intellectual capital and educational programming in one state-of-the-art facility. Within this synergistic setting, students and faculty will learn, research and interact directly with business owners, developers, entrepreneurs and economic development organizations to foster innovation, test boundary-breaking ideas and launch new ventures.
- Serve as a central location for entrepreneurial activities, training, business development and technology transfer.
- Support entrepreneurs, start-ups and established organizations with essential resources and services— from market assessments to financing to coaching to business launch boot camps.
- Provide students with on-campus internships, mentorships, employment and active learning experiences.
