Austria is extremely safe; Vienna is one of the safest cities in the world.
When traveling anywhere, though, be aware of your surroundings and use common sense:
do not openly count large sums of money
do not deal with criminal elements
respect local laws and customs
do not leave items unattended
do not become intoxicated
travel with trusted friends
Outside Austria
Do not travel to areas that the US State Department has designated as hazardous or advised against travel.
Check the US State Department website for Travel Advisories and Consular Information Sheets for any country you are considering traveling to or through.
