Program overview

Biochemistry is an exciting field in which the chemical processes that occur within living organisms are investigated. Biochemists explore the molecules and reactions involved in metabolism across a wide range of life forms -- from bacteria to humans. At NMU, Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary major that integrates coursework in biology, chemistry, mathematics & computer science, and physics. A bachelor’s degree in biochemistry provides a strong foundation for graduate studies in chemistry, biochemistry, or biological sciences, and also prepares students for entry-level scientific positions in various industries. This degree opens doors to careers in research, forensic science, education, and the pharmaceutical sector while also providing excellent preparation for medical, dental, or pharmacy school.
