Bio:
Dr. Brynna Jones joins the department as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in
physical chemistry. A double-major at Wheaton College, she earned both a B.S. in
Chemistry and a B.A. in Ancient Languages before going on to earn her M.S. and Ph.D.
in Physical Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. In her graduate
work, Dr. Jones used two-dimensional-infrared spectroscopy to study solvent dynamics.
After graduate school, Dr. Jones was an NRC Postdoctoral Research Associate at the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where she worked to develop
and apply structured-illumination fluorescence lifetime microscopy, a technique which
can be used to map cells. She began her independent career at the University of North
Florida as an assistant professor and plans to continue her timely research here at
NMU—Dr. Jones uses infrared spectroscopy to study and model the fate of
microplastics in aqueous environments. Dr. Jones is no stranger to cold and snow
having spent much of her childhood in Indiana and her graduate years in Minnesota!
She enjoys reading, singing, and spending time with her lovely Whippet/lab mix, Sasha.
