Students in this degree can choose from the following different concentration areas:

  • fiction
  • creative nonfiction
  • poetry
  • mixed or hybrid options for students who work in multiple genres or whose work defies genre

Master of Arts

The Master of Arts in English allows students to develop their critical thinking, textual analysis, writing, and teaching abilities in preparation for further graduate study and for work in diverse professional fields.

Students can choose from any of the following concentrations: 

  • literature
  • writing & literacy studies
  • literature and the environment

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program graduates receive a certificate. Courses taken toward the TESOL certificate can also fulfill requirements of other graduate programs, such as the MA in English Writing and Literacy Studies concentration.
