EPAF Student Approval Categories - Human Resources

Fall & Winter Semester

Students must be enrolled at least half-time (defined below) for the fall or winter semester to be considered student employees.  Students that fail to meet the half-time requirement are considered to be temporary employees and approval by Human Resources is required prior to hiring.

Summer Semester

Students must be enrolled at least half-time (defined below) for the summer semester to be considered student employees.  Students who do not meet the half-time enrollment criteria for the summer semester may work on campus as student temporary employees only if they are enrolled at least half-time for the upcoming fall semester.  Students that fail to meet the half-time enrollment requirement for both the summer and upcoming fall semester are considered to be temporary employees and approval by Human Resources is required prior to hiring.

Half-time Enrollment Defined

An undergraduate student must be enrolled in six (6) or more credit hours to be considered half-time.

A graduate student must be enrolled in four (4) or more credit hours to be considered half-time.

The matrix below is a guide to selecting the correct EPAF Approval Category, the correct position number, and also shows whether or not fringe benefits will be charged to your department based on the employment status of the student.  Please remember that selecting the correct position number is critical since the position number dictates the organization number to which the wages and fringe benefits are charged.  If you need position numbers assigned to a new organization number, please call Finance & Planning at 227-2275.
