- Membership on the committee should include individuals who understand the requirements of the position to be filled and who are committed to the mission of the department and the University.
- Search committees should include members with different perspectives and expertise, and with a demonstrated commitment to diversity.
- Selection committee members should be willing to serve and have time to serve.
- Members should be of high integrity and be able to keep all aspects of the search confidential.
- The selection committee should be composed of at least five (5) to nine (9) members. Departmental bylaws may require smaller or larger selection committees.
- Selection committees should have a minority and/or woman as a member or consultant. When possible, women and minorities from the department should be represented on all selection committees.
- Women and minorities from other departments may be enlisted to serve on these committees.
- Contact Equal Opportunity or Human Resources for help on selecting search committee members.
- Consider appointing search committee members form outside the department.
