The following information is intended to provide clarification and to ensure a consistent practice in the number of hours worked during a fiscal year by those employees who are assigned to positions that are less than 1.0 FTE.
The term FTE is a measurement tool that permits NMU to determine and to track the amount of work being performed by an employee for an assigned position. An individual working a 40-hour week (80-hour pay period) for an entire year is considered a 1.0 FTE employee. An employee working a 20-hour week (40-hour pay period) for an entire year is considered a .50 FTE employee. To assist supervisors and those employees who are assigned to positions less than 1.0 FTE, the following charts provide the number of working hours available by FTE for each fiscal year.
Human Resources will update this chart annually to assist supervisors in scheduling their employees who are assigned to less than 1.0 FTE positions. The working hours for a FTE position not identified below can be determined by multiplying the position’s FTE by the working hours required for a 1.0 FTE position (2088 or 2080 hours, depending on the year) and round to the nearest whole hour. For example, a .80 FTE would be required to work 1670 hours in fiscal year 2022 (2088 X .8 = 1670).
