"NMU HOSTS TV, MUSIC EXECUTIVE FROM INDIA"

MARQUETTE— Sivaram Srikandath, director of programs for Manorama Vision in southern India, will present “Indian Telecommunications and Media: An Explosion of Opportunity in the Global Economy,” as part of Northern Michigan University’s international speakers series. The event will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, in the Whitman Commons. It is free and open to the public.

            As director at Manorama Vision, a TV software division, Srikandath is the executive producer of a number of TV shows in Indian, including two of the most popular soap operas. He is also the director of Manorama Music, which has more than 200 releases under its label.

 His parent company, Malayala Manorama, is the 34th largest newspaper in the world with 1.3 million subscribers. It is one of India’s largest-circulated daily regional newspapers.

            Srikandath’s presentation will discuss the Indian TV industry and the growth it has had since the 1960s. Highlighted will be the role of Doordarshan, India’s official governmental news agency, and the significant points of the industry during the past four decades.
