Author and journalist Tom Bissell will read from his works at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the Women’s Federated Clubhouse in Marquette. The event is free and open to the public.

            Bissell is a native of Escanaba and graduated from Michigan State University. He has written several books, including Chasing the Sea, a travel narrative; God Lives in St. Petersburg, a story collection; and The Father of All Things, a hybrid work of history and memoir.

            In 2006, Bissell was awarded the Rome Prize. His work has appeared in several anthologies and magazines, including The New York Times Magazine, Best American Short Stories 2005, Harper’s, Granta and The New Yorker. He is working on a new book about his travels to the tombs of the Twelve Apostles, as well as a book about video games.
