Two historical walking tours will be offered by the Center for Upper Peninsula Studies at Northern Michigan University. They will be led by Russell Magnaghi, director and NMU historian, and are free and open to the public.

            The first tour is scheduled to depart from the front of the West Science Building at NMU at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 28. It will cover portions of campus, outlining the university’s 110-year history. Participants will then drive to Park Cemetery to visit the “greats and not so greats” in Marquette’s history and learn how a cemetery can be a valuable resource for historians. The event is scheduled to end at about 11:30 a.m.

The second tour will depart from the Landmark Inn lobby at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29. Magnaghi will lead a tour of historic downtown Marquette, including the Landmark Inn, Peter White Public Library, Washington Street, the Marquette County Courthouse and St. Peter Cathedral. Participants are invited to linger for a light refreshment or lunch at Doncker’s Candy Store.
