'THE ONION' WRITERS COMING TO NMU

Tuesday 6, 2009
MARQUETTE, Mich.—Writers from The Onion will give a presentation at Northern Michigan University on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The event is scheduled at 7 p.m. in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center.

The Onion, which bills itself as “America’s finest news source,” is a weekly satirical newspaper distributed throughout the country with more than three million readers. It also has a supplementary online radio program with one million listeners. The presentation will explore and mock current events, “from the left and right, the powerful and weak and the deserving and utterly innocent.”

Head writer Carol Kolb has been with The Onion since it was headquartered in Madison, Wis., as a writer and editor in chief for the newspaper before shifting to the web-video department in 2007. Senior editor Joe Randazzo has been with The Onion since 2006.

Admission is free for NMU students and $2 for the general public.

The presentation is sponsored by Platform Personalities and the Student Activity Fee.
