LEMON RUN RAISES MONEY FOR CANCER

Thursday 15, 2009
MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Northern Michigan University student chapter of Alex’s Lemonade Stand will hold “The Lemon Run” to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. The event is scheduled at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Berry Events Center.

The national Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004), who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Knowing that her chances of living were slim, she wanted to do something to help other children with cancer, so she started selling lemonade at the age of 4 to raise money for a cure for all kids with cancer. Since that first stand, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement. To date, the charity has raised more than $25 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding more than 100 research projects nationally.

Registration for the two-mile run/walk starts at noon. The entry fee is $15 for adults and $10 for students and children under 10.
