'RENT' AUDITIONS AT NMU

Friday 30, 2009
MARQUETTE, Mich.—Open auditions for Northern Michigan University’s production of “Rent” will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Nov. 5-6, in Forest Roberts Theatre. In a unique twist for an NMU show, there will be a final callback performance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, where audience members will help to decide who should be cast in the major roles. Admission is $5 to be part of the audience.

To audition, please prepare a 60-90 second cutting or song. Rock or pop styles are preferred. An accompanist will be provided, though individuals can bring their own. It is requested that no one sing with recorded voices or use the soundtrack from the play or movie. The callback performance will also be held in Forest Roberts Theatre.

The rock opera “Rent” is based on Puccini's “La Boheme.” It tells the story of one year in the life of friends living the Bohemian life in East Village, New York City. Their lives change forever over the course of that period as they deal with love, AIDS, modern life and a number of other hardships.
