FREE ONE-ACT OPERA AT NMU

Monday 29, 2010
MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Northern Michigan University music department will present an original one-act chamber opera by professor Robert Engelhart titled “The Lion, the Slave and the Rodent.”

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, and on Tuesday, April 13, in Reynolds Recital Hall. The public is invited free of charge, but seating is limited, so tickets should be picked up in advance at campus EZ ticket outlets or the NMU music department in room 102 of the Thomas Fine Arts Building.

The opera is adapted from the Aesop fables Androcles and the Lion and The Lion and the Mouse. It tells the tale of a mouse and slave who run away, weary of living underneath their master, only to meet a ferocious lion in the woods.
