MARQUETTE, Mich.—The final presentation of the 2009-10 Your Health Lecture Series will feature a discussion on cerebral palsy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in Northern Michigan University’s Jamrich Hall, room 103.  The event is free and open to the public.

            Michigan State University professor and pediatrician Nigel Paneth will examine the myths and realities of cerebral palsy. He will discuss cerebral palsy’s impact on quality of life and economics, and the mistaken ideas and new concepts about the causation on how the disability occurs. Cerebral palsy is most often associated with childhood brain injuries, but can also occur in adults.

Paneth is a perinatal and child health epidemiologist, specializing in the causes and prevention of childhood neuro-developmental handicaps.

            The Your Health Lecture Series is jointly sponsored by Marquette General Health System, Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, NMU and the Upper Peninsula Health Education Corporation.
