MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Center for Lifelong Learning members will tour the Empire Mine Open Pit and the Tilden Mine Pellet Plant at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4.
This event will be presented by E.J. Kutchie, of the public affairs office for Cliffs Natural Resources and will allow participants to view the mines while in operation. Hard hats, safety glasses and earplugs will be provided. Participants must wear closed-toed walking shoes, long pants and shirts with sleeves.
Bus transportation will be provided, leaving at 7:45 a.m. from the Berry Events Center in Marquette, or at 8:10 a.m. from the Ishpeming Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum. The tour will cost $5, with an additional $1 for the bus.
