MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University will host “An Evening with Max Brooks” on Thursday, Sept. 23. The author of The Zombie Survival Guide will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center.

            Brooks is the son of director Mel Brooks and the late actress Anne Bancroft. His first release, The Zombie Survival Guide, is billed as a “key to success against the hordes of the undead that may be stalking you right now.” The book is the result of Brooks’ tireless search for both the living dead and ways to eradicate them, which has taken him to over 30 countries and territories in Europe, Russia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Arctic and sub-Saharan Africa.

            Other books to his credit are the New York Times bestseller, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, which depicts the world’s desperate battle against the zombie threat with a series of first-person accounts “as told to the author” by various characters around the world; and Brooks’ latest release, The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks, a graphic novel about major zombie attacks from the dawn of humanity that reveals how other eras and cultures have dealt with—and survived—the ancient viral plague.

            Brooks previously worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in Great Britain and East Africa and as a writer for Saturday Night Live.
