NMU MUSIC EVENTS SCHEDULED

            MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Northern Michigan University music department will present three upcoming concerts. All will be held in Reynolds Recital Hall in C.B. Hedgcock. The public is invited free of charge.

            An NMU Orchestra performance is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17. The concert will begin with a short, lyrical piece called “Andante Cantabile” by Peter Tchaikovsky and include Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5.”

            The NMU Jazz Band will play selections by composers such as Duke Ellington, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Victor Young and Paul Lopez at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18. The vocal jazz group the Wildscats will also be featured, along with an opportunity for audience participation.

            Three vocal groups will give a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21. The University Choir and Madrigal Singers will present jazz-style works by English pianist George Shearing, set to words by William Shakespeare. The Lake Effect Show Choir will vocally and visually perform three pop songs: “Sing a Song” by Earth Wind and Fire; “Like a Prayer” by Madonna; and “Home” by Michael Bublé.
