NMU SPORTS COMPLEX IMPACTED BY OBAMA VISIT

            MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University will close some of its sports complex facilities and parking lots in preparation for President Barack Obama’s scheduled visit to NMU on Thursday, Feb. 10.

On Thursday, the Superior Dome will be closed to the public and classes scheduled in the dome after 10 a.m. will be canceled. The PEIF will be closed until 4 p.m., when it reopens for classes, recreation and other events.

In order to accommodate needs for staging and security, Vandament Arena closed at noon today and will remain unavailable until late Thursday afternoon. The Comedy Central on Campus Tour sponsored by Northern Arts and Entertainment will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Vandament Arena, as originally scheduled.

Parking lot 60, located off Fair Avenue west of the Berry Events Center and south of the PEIF, will close at midnight Wednesday, as will lots 50, 51, 52, 57, 58 and 59, which surround all but the north side of the sports complex. Any cars remaining in the closed lots past midnight will be towed. The following parking lots on the north side of the dome near the Wright Street entrance will remain open: 53, 54, 55 and 56.

Gymnasium #154, next to Vandament Arena, will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. The Wildcat Room will not be available for classes on Wednesday and Thursday.
