MARQUETTE, Mich.—Award-winning folk musician Dan Levenson will lead a two-day banjo and fiddle camp at Northern Michigan University offered by the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center and the Hiawatha Music Co-op.

An evening reception on Tuesday, July 19, will be followed by two full days of workshops. The event concludes with a concert by Levenson Thursday, July 21, at Grace United Methodist Church.

            The cost for all sessions and one ticket to the concert is $100, with a registration deadline of June 30. Lodging is available at NMU and campus meal plans may be purchased.

Levenson is the originator of Meet the Banjo, a three-hour, hands-on workshop that introduces the bluegrass and clawhammer styles. He has been voted one of the country’s top 10 clawhammer banjo players by Banjo Newsletter readers. Levenson is well known as the banjo player for the Boiled Buzzard Stringband and as the fiddler for a new band, The Hippie-billies.

As a native southern Appalachian style fiddler, part of Levenson’s show is telling the story behind each of his fiddles and their respective tunings. He is a past winner of the Old Time Fiddle contest in Coshocton, Ohio. He also teaches pre-beginner to performance-level artists on both the banjo and fiddle.
