NMU ALUMNI SUMMER REUNION JUNE 23-25

            MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University will host an all-alumni summer reunion Thursday, June 23, through Saturday, June 25. Advance registration is required for all activities planned during the celebration, with the exception of the Friday evening community concert.

            “When you talk with alumni nationwide, they all say the same thing: they love Marquette in the summer,” said Deanna Hemmila, NMU director of alumni operations. “Homecoming is designed to get alumni back to town, but we know not everyone can travel in the fall. With the great national recognition Marquette has received as a Distinctive Destination—a contest in which thousands of alumni voted—we decided this was the year to put together a summer reunion. More than 300 people have registered so far and some events are sold out.”

            Activities that remain open include the following:

            Thursday, June 23

            ▪ 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Summer Reunion Golf Outing at the NMU Golf Course, $18 per person for nine holes with cart; $27 for 18 holes with cart. Call 227-3111 to register a team.

            ▪ 6-8 p.m., Pig roast at Kaye House sponsored by VAST with music by Jim & Ray, $15 for NMU Alumni Association members; $20 for non-members; $10 for children (free for under age 4).

 

            Friday, June 24

            ▪ 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m., Summer College for Kids programs at the Seaborg Center for grades K-8. Cost: $5 per child per session.

            ▪ 11:30 a.m., All Greek reunion picnic on the University Center lawn. To register, contact Phi Sigma Sigma at nmugreek@nmu.edu or 227-1089. Cost to be determined.

            ▪ 1-4 p.m., Campus presentations and open houses, including the DeVos Art Museum and the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center in 105 Cohodas Hall.

            ▪ 2-4 p.m. Sugarloaf hike and activities

            ▪ 6:30 p.m. “An Evening with Jeff Daniels” presented by Cliffs Natural Resources, Marquette Commons. Bring lawn chairs.

 

Saturday, June 25

            ▪ 8 a.m., Wildcat Fun Run presented by the U.P. Health Plan and The Landing Development Group. The $10 fee for this 5K walk/run includes a t-shirt for the first 100 registrants, prizes and refreshments along the course.

            ▪ 11:30 a.m., Alpha Phi Omega reunion memorial tree dedication in honor of U.S. Army Spc. Garrett F. Lee, class of 1963. The Kingsford native was killed in Vietnam. 

▪ 6-9 p.m., Army ROTC Wildcat Battalion reunion social. This is a no-host social where attendees purchase their own food and beverages. The location will be determined based on the number of participants. Register by contacting the NMU Army ROTC at 227-2236 or military@nmu.edu.
