'UP IN 3D' EXHIBIT OPENS
Monday 1, 2011
MARQUETTE, Mich.—Three-dimensional images from the late 19th and early 20th centuries depicting various Upper Peninsula locations are featured in a new exhibit at the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University. “UP in 3D” will be on display through Oct. 13 in 105 Cohodas Hall. Admission is free.
Forty images from the collections of Jack Deo of Marquette and the Marquette Regional History Center are presented in large format black-and-white prints. They were created using stereo cameras that simultaneously captured each subject from two slightly different perspectives. Visitors are issued 3D glasses to view the images, which portray mining operations, Ojibwe settlements, Mackinac Island, natural wonders and townscapes from throughout the region.
For more information on the “UP in 3D” exhibition, visit www.nmu.edu/beaumier or call 227-3212. The Beaumier Center’s hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
