MARQUETTE, Mich.—Fourteen presentations on topics relevant to the Upper Peninsula will be offered during the 11th annual Sonderegger Symposium at Northern Michigan University on Friday, Sept. 16. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Mead Auditorium in the West Science Building. It is free and open to the public.

            NMU professors and students, along with independent scholars, will address subjects including rural homelessness, George Shiras and the early 20th century environmental movement, human aspects of commercial fishing, downtown Marquette facades and national park properties in the Upper Peninsula. The symposium will also feature a display of animal furs by Doug Boyle of UP Fur Trappers sessions. A continental breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. to start the event.
