Kaustinen, a cluster of villages in western Finland, has long been famous for its fiddlers, But based on the innovative influence of local band JPP and one of its members teaching all kids in the area who want to learn, the standards of playing, writing and arranging have increased rapidly in recent years.
Frigg is at the crest of this new wave and has been drawing attention on both sides of the Atlantic for its live shows, including an appearance on Prairie Home Companion, and recordings. The group released a self-titled debut in 2002 and its second effort, Oasis, followed in 2005.
The concert is funded in part by the Finn Grand Fest Foundation.
