Thursday 27, 2011
MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University will unveil a new “Cool-lections” exhibit on Thursday, Nov. 3. Director Dan Truckey will give a guided talk titled “Why Things Matter” at the opening reception at 7 p.m. in 105 Cohodas Hall.
The exhibit is composed of odd, fascinating and interesting artifacts from the center’s collection and from individuals throughout the community. Truckey will discuss the importance of material culture and the symbolic and practical reasons that individuals collect such artifacts. Admission to the museum is free.
NMU’s introduction to museum studies course, taught by Truckey, helped to select artifacts and related stories that are featured.
