Your Health Lecture Focuses on Strokes

Wednesday 21, 2012

MARQUETTE, Mich.—The next presentation in the Your Health public lecture series at Northern Michigan University will be “Stroke: Translating Research to Rural Emergency Care.” This free event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in Reynolds Recital Hall in C.B. Hedgcock. The featured speaker will be Dr. Michael Brown, an emergency medicine physician with Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine.

Brown will discuss the warning signs of stroke, which is the third leading cause of death in the United States. What some may not realize is that time lost is brain lost. People who disregard their symptoms or wait too long before seeking medical care may wind up with long-term disability. Brown will share how the latest research can be translated to stroke interventions, even in remote areas.

Your Health is designed to provide qualified, general health information to area residents through a collaborative effort between MSU’s College of Human Medicine, NMU, Marquette General Health System and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
