MARQUETTE, Mich.—Singer-songwriters Joel Mytty and Katherine Niemann, both Northern Michigan University students, will perform at the next Beaumier Coffee House Series concert as part of the Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival. The event begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in the Peter White Lounge of the University Center. Admission is free, with donations encouraged.

            Mytty is a self-taught guitar player who has written a number of songs. One of his pieces, “Inquisitive Eyes,” was featured on Copper Vein Records’ Copper Vein No. 4 in 2010. The record label was founded by one of Mytty’s friends in the Keweenaw Peninsula and all four compilations produced so far feature only local talent. Mitty is a psychology major and music minor at NMU.

Niemann is an Ann Arbor native who started playing piano when she was 8 and has since taken up the violin, cello and singing. She is a freshman majoring in speech, language and hearing sciences.
