MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Flat Broke Blues Band will perform at Northern Michigan University as part of the Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival’s Coffee House Series. The concert is scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in the University Center’s Peter White Lounge. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.

Flat Broke has played at a number of venues and special events across the upper Great Lakes Region for more than a decade. The band features two original members: guitarist/vocalist Walt Lindala and bassist/vocalist Mark Johnson. They are joined by guitarist/vocalist Mike Letts, drummer Jim Cohen and lead vocalist/harmonica player Lorrie Hayes.

The group’s sound is a mix of blues and R&B classics, along with a variety of original songs that showcase each band members’ talents. Flat Broke has shared the stage with blues stars such as Koko Taylor, Tab Benoit, Shemekia Copeland and Lonnie Brooks.
