Carey Hall Demolition Begins
Monday, June 25, 2012
MARQUETTE, Mich.—The demolition of Northern Michigan University’s Carey Hall is scheduled to begin today with initial site preparation and will last about six weeks. Working hours for the project will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, with the exception of the July 4 holiday and the July 11-12 NMU Board of Trustees meeting.
Below is the anticipated demolition schedule. Please note it is dependent on the weather.
Week 1: Begin site preparation. This includes perimeter fencing, equipment delivery, window removal and interior demolition work. Some exterior work will be done to physically detach Carey Hall from adjacent Lee Hall.
Weeks 2-3: Interior demolition work continues including disconnecting interior electrical, water and steam service to the building. Exterior site work will include rerouting sewer systems on the south side of Carey Hall.
Weeks 4-5: Demolition of the facility begins and includes hauling construction debris off site. It is anticipated that this phase will produce the most noise.
Week 6: Complete building demolition and begin site restoration. The former building site will be restored to a grassy area. All work is currently scheduled to be done by Friday, Aug. 3.
