MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University will host a free public forum on Great Lakes research on Friday, Aug. 24, in the Brule Room of the University Center. The event begins with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and continues through 12:30 p.m. Sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), it will cover topics such as lake evaporation, water levels, rip currents, ice cover and near-shore weather and marine forecasting.

Presenters include meteorologists from NOAA’s National Weather Service office in Negaunee, researchers from Environment Canada and various universities, and scientists from NOAA’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor. They will share scientific knowledge on the Great Lakes, introduce research projects being conducted at Granite Island and Stannard Rock and get feedback from the community and Great Lakes shareholders on research products and data accessibility.
