MARQUETTE, Mich.—The DeVos Art Museum will feature its first exhibition in partnership with the artist-in-residence program on Rabbit Island, a privately owned Lake Superior refuge located three miles east of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The opening reception for “Andrew Ranville: No Island is a Man” will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14. It is free and open to the public. Ranville will also give an artist’s talk at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the museum.

Ranville spent part of the past two summers on Rabbit Island, which is owned by fellow Michigan native Rob Gorski. The exhibition will include photography, video, sculpture and sound recordings that give a feel for what it might be like to spend an extended period of time on the island.

Gorski worked with the Keweenaw Land Trust to draft a conservation easement that prevents development of the land outside the prescribed area reserved for the artist residency. The exhibition runs through Dec. 4. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and 1-4 p.m. weekends.
