Monday 15, 2012

MARQUETTE, Mich.— “An Evening at the Archives” event will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in Room 126 of the Learning Resources Center at Northern Michigan University. NMU Professor James McCommons will be speaking about his research on George Shiras III, including his use of Shiras’ papers, letters and unfinished biography as resources.

Shiras was a wildlife photographer and conservationist in the early 20th century.

“People can expect to hear a very interesting presentation about George Shiras and the early conservation movement in the United States. They’ll also learn about Shiras’ relationship to President Theodore Roosevelt,” said Marcus Robyns, university archivist.

Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public. Space is limited, so reservations are encouraged. Reservations can be made by contacting the archives at 906-227-1046.
