Students Present Exercise and Disease Symposium at MGH

           MARQUETTE, Mich.— Students from Northern Michigan University’s health, physical education and recreation department will address the important role exercise can play in fighting specific diseases during a symposium titled “Is Sitting the New Smoking?” The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, in Marquette General Hospital’s conference room 4 on the third floor. It is free and open to the public.

Ten students will give talks focusing on the following topics: cancer, atrial fibrillation, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, strokes, diabetes, osteoporosis and obesity. Each presentation will last 15-30 minutes, followed by an opportunity for questions.
