Students Present Exercise and Disease Symposium at MGH

MARQUETTE, Mich.- Students from Northern Michigan University's health, physical education and recreation department will address the important role exercise can play in fighting specific diseases during a symposium titled "Is Sitting the New Smoking?" The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, in Marquette General Hospital's conference room 4 on the third floor. It is free and open to the public.

Ten students will give talks focusing on the following topics: cancer, atrial fibrillation, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, strokes, diabetes, osteoporosis and obesity. Each presentation will last 15-30 minutes, followed by an opportunity for questions.
