Presque Isle Snowshoe Tour Feb. 9

Monday 21, 2013

MARQUETTE, Mich.— Presque Isle’s natural beauty and rich history will be showcased during a snowshoe tour led by John Anderton, Northern Michigan University geography professor. This is one of several events planned for February, which has been designated U.P. Heritage Month by the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at NMU

“Professor Anderton specializes in combining the geographic and human history of an area to determine the style of human habitation,” said Daniel Truckey, Beaumier Center director.

Anderton will discuss the history of the first peoples to settle Presque Isle and the beginning of Marquette as a modern town.

The tour will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Presque Isle pavilion. It is free and open to snowshoers of all skill levels. Snowshoes will not be provided.
