MARQUETTE, Mich.—A discussion about the effectiveness of America’s current health care system will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, in Reynolds Recital Hall at Northern Michigan University. This event, which is part of the Your Health Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.

Dean Sienko, an associate dean for prevention and public health at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, will discuss current health care policies and their ability to lead to good health practices. He will explore the question of whether too many resources are being devoted to treating versus preventing diseases.  “Should we, as a population, succumb to the fact that preventable diseases such as diabetes are now commonplace or change our health care polices and resources to focus on prevention?” asks Sienko.
