Thursday 28, 2013

MARQUETTE, Mich.— The fourth annual Upper Peninsula High School Math Challenge was held recently at Northern Michigan University. It featured 113 students on 28 teams from nine U.P. school districts.

Students from Houghton High School swept the top three individual rankings. Daniel Gershenson earned first place, Maggie Wang came in second and Noah Gershenson placed third.

The top three teams were: Houghton High School’s Team Black, first; Lake Linden-Hubbell High School’s Team 2, second; and  Calumet High School, third.

Topics for the challenge were drawn from high school pre-calculus level mathematics. Students competed in three events: individual questions, team questions and a relay competition.
