MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Dining Services has received two awards from the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS). NMU won silver for its “PigStock” themed dinner in the special events category among medium-sized institutions in the 2013 NACUFS Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards competition. The all-day event featured innovative pork and bacon dishes, live music and prizes.

NMU also received a bronze in the 2013 NACUFS Sustainability Awards competition, which includes six categories honoring universities that have successfully engaged in sustainable practices without sacrificing profits or guest satisfaction. NMU entered its Dine Responsibly program in the outreach and education category. The initiative was launched in an effort to increase awareness about NMU Dining’s sustainable practices, local business partnerships and focus toward local purchasing.

The awards were presented at the 2013 NACUFS National Conference, held July 10-13 in Minneapolis. For more information, contact Stephanie Raboin at 227-2588 or sraboin@nmu.edu
