MARQUETTE — The Seaborg Center at Northern Michigan University will hold its “Fall Weekend College for Kids” program on three Saturdays: Sept. 28, Oct. 26 and Nov. 16. The sessions are designed for students in kindergarten through 6th grade. All sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $5 per student per program. The schedule is as follows:

Sept. 28

            Fall Trees, grades K-1. Observe trees, identify the parts of trees and compare trees for similarities and differences;

            Bones, grades 2-3. Locate and learn the name and orientation of the most important bones in your body;

            Separating Mixtures, grades 4-6. Make mixtures and solutions with different solids and liquids to learn how to separate the mixtures and solutions using screens, filters and evaporation;

Oct. 26

            Leaves, grades K-1. Observe and compare the size, shapes, textures and colors of leaves;

            Joints, grades 2-3. Observe human joints, their versatility and compare them to mechanical structures;

            Reaching Saturation, grades 4-6. Investigate the behavior of solid materials in water to understand the concept of saturation and compare the solubility of materials in liquids;

Nov. 16

            Trees through the seasons, grades K-1. Observe seasonal changes in trees, the structures of their tree parts and compare changes in parts of different types of trees;

            Muscles, grades 2-3. Build an operating model to demonstrate how muscles, tendons and sometimes ligaments work together to move various parts of your body;

            Chemical Reactions, grades 4-6. Observe materials before and after a chemical reaction. Compare and identify the properties of the products of different reactions.
