Autism Presentation at NMU

            MARQUETTE—The Northern Michigan University psychology department will hold a presentation on educating children with autism at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, in 167 Gries Hall. Morten Haugland, an NMU alumnus who established Ohio’s largest provider of services for students on the autism spectrum, will be the featured speaker. He will provide an overview of the Haugland model of education. Topics include precision teaching, direct instruction and applied behavior analysis.

            The Haugland Learning Center was established in 2004. It served seven students in its first year and has since expanded to more than 350 students in four locations across Ohio.

            This presentation is free and open to the public. It is part of the Discourses from the Academy colloquium series sponsored by NMU’s psychology department. For more information, call 227-2935.
