Jazz Trio Performs at NMU

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University’s music department will present a jazz trio concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in Reynolds Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.

NMU professor Mark Flaherty will play the trumpet, with adjunct instructor David Ziegner on guitar and alumnus Harry South on bass.

Flaherty coordinates the music technology lab and directs the NMU Jazz Band. He performs as the principal trumpet for the Marquette Symphony Orchestra and plays freelance around the Upper Peninsula. 

Ziegner has performed with various mainstream artists, in addition to founding and leading two jazz groups. He is an active member of the Marquette and NMU jazz scene, as a collaborator with local jazz musicians and active participant in the NMU Faculty and Friends Jazz Combo.

South is an NMU graduate performing with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra. He also directs the after-school strings club at Cherry Creek Elementary.
