MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University will celebrate International Education Week Nov. 18-22 as part of the nationwide celebration of international education and exchange sponsored jointly by the U.S. Departments of State and Education. All events are free and open to the public.

            Monday, Nov. 18: Yvette Feng, an NMU student from China, will talk about the educational system in her home country and how it compares with the United States at 3 p.m. in the Whitman Hall commons. The documentary, Solar Mamas, which follows a Jordanian woman who went to India to learn to build a solar power system, will be shown at 7 p.m. in Mead Auditorium in the West Science Building. A discussion will follow about how modern education empowers women throughout the world.

            Tuesday, Nov. 19: NMU international students and International Programs Office staff will lead a discussion titled “Why Does Internationalization Matter to You?” from 3-4:30 p.m. in 2101 Hedgcock. An international trivia game night will be held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Whitman Hall commons.

            Wednesday, Nov. 20: For international fashion day, students and employees are encouraged to wear clothes from other countries on campus. A study abroad coffee chat with photos of opportunities available through NMU will be held from 3-5 p.m. in 2101 Hedgcock.

            Friday, Nov. 22: A salsa dance demonstration and lecture will be held from 3-4 p.m. in 2101 Hedgcock.
