MARQUETTE, Mich.— This year marks the 21st annual “Learning to Walk Together” traditional pow wow at Northern Michigan University. It is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, in Vandament Arena. The do­­ors open to the public at 11 a.m., with­ two grand entries at noon and 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $5 and NMU students are free with a student ID.

“Learning to Walk Together” is a means to promote cultural diversity within the community. The celebration begins with the grand entry and flag song, followed by the veteran’s song to honor male and female veterans. The event includes traditional powwow dances and social powwow dances, with artisan and vendor booths available to display craft items, reference materials and food.

Highlighted performances include Don Chosa Jr., head veteran; KBIC Honor Guard; Bahweting Singers, host drum; Lisa Brunk, head female dancer; Tony Davis, head male dancer; Bucko Teeple, master of ceremonies; Bobby Blackdeer, arena director; Sam Doyle, fire keeper; Buffalo Bay Singers, invited drums; and Four Thunders, invited drums.
