NMU Students Win Awards at Model UN Event

            MARQUETTE, Mich.— Four Northern Michigan University students won awards at the recent North American Model United Nations Conference held at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. The event drew about 300 delegates, including 34 NMU students involved in the Model United Nations student organization and enrolled in the Model United Nations class.

The students participated in a mock U.N. conference, where they were assigned a foreign nation and a crisis to resolve.

Tony Boyle of Marquette received Best Position Paper on the Greek town Amphissa in “The Rise of Alexander: 337 BC” category. Bob Polzin of Marquette received an honorable mention as Eretria in “The Rise of Alexander: 337 BC” category. Justin Bis of Ortonville received Best Delegate as Mark McKinnon in the “Change 2008: The McCain Team” category. Matthew Cline of Fort Campbell, Ky., received honorable mention as Harukichi Hyakutake in the “From Edo Bay to Pearl Harbor: Imperial Japan” category.
