MARQUETTE, Mich. – Olympic short-track speedskater Jordan Malone will give a presentation at Northern Michigan University titled “Testing Mettle, Earning Medals” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Jamrich Hall room 104. Admission is free to NMU students with an ID and $2 for the general public.

Malone captured a silver medal at the recent Sochi Olympic Games as a member of Team USA’s 5,000-meter relay team.  He earned a bronze medal in the same event at the Vancouver Games in 2010.  He is also a seven-time World Championship medalist.

Malone trained at the United States Olympic Education Center on the NMU campus while attending the university from 2010-2012, majoring in electrical engineering. Since 2012, he has trained in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Malone was one of five former USOEC speedskaters to compete at the Sochi Games.

Malone began his athletic career in inline speedskating at the age of five. When he left the sport in 2004 for short-track speedskating, he had eight junior and six senior World Championship gold medals, and was one of the most decorated inline skaters in U.S. history.

Malone owns his own business called Full Composite Racing, which manufactures carbon fiber racing equipment, including the tips skaters wear on their left-hand fingers to assist with balance during the high speed turns during races.
