Math Colloquium Uses Oreos as Demonstration
Friday 11, 2014
Northern Michigan University mathematics professor emeritus John Kiltinen will use an Oreo comparison to make a point in the next mathematics and computer science seminar. The public is invited to attend this event, scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in New Science Facility 1205.
Kiltinen's talk grows out of the discovery that there's a lot of math involved and a number of pedagogical implications related to studying this question: Is a stack of Double Stuf Oreo cookies twice as tall as a stack of an equal number of regular Oreos if the claim is true that the Double Stuf ones have twice the filling?
