NMU Board Meeting, Pavilion Dedication Friday

Tuesday 15, 2014

The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees will hold a formal session at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, in the Marquette/Nicolet/Cadillac rooms of the University Center. The agenda and supporting materials can be viewed at www.nmu.edu/boardbook.

A dedication of the Wahtera Pavilion will follow at noon, with brief remarks and a ribbon-cutting. The pavilion is located on the former site of Carey Hall, northwest of Cohodas Hall. It was made possible through a bequest from NMU alumnus Waino Wahtera (class of 1940). At 40 x 60 feet, it provides a gathering place that can accommodate about 200 people and overlooks the Summit Street neighborhood where Wahtera was born and raised. His nephew, Kim Wahtera, will speak at the dedication about Waino, the family and their legacy. President Fritz Erickson will officially dedicate the pavilion with a brief statement before the ribbon-cutting.
