Coffee House Music Series Resumes Saturday

Tuesday 2, 2014

MARQUETTE, Mich.--The Beaumier Coffee House Series at Northern Michigan University begins its third season with a performance by two Marquette acoustic groups on Saturday, Sept. 6. The show begins at 7 p.m. at the Wahtera Pavilion outside Lee Hall with the duo of Kerry Yost and Dylan Trost. They will be followed by the swing band, Nick Adams & the Aral Sea Divers. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. In the case of bad weather, the performance will be moved to the Peter White Lounge of the University Center.

Yost and Trost (MALAMUTE) are lovers of old-timey music, blues and rock n' roll. These influences can be heard in their experimental instrumentals and eccentric, folky songwriting.

Nick Adams and the Aral Sea Divers was formed over the winter of 2014, when Aaron O'Brien, guitarist and vocals, discovered clarinetist Audra Hagan. They immediately bonded over their love for 1930s big band jazz and soon found bass player Dan Zini, drummer Phil Kessel and trombonist Roscoe Schieler. The group later recruited violinist Matt Mitchell and Lucas Lafave on upright bass. The Sea Divers play timeless and sentimental music in a refreshing and upbeat way.
