NMU AFSCME Union Ratifies Contract

Thursday 25, 2014

Broadcasters: AFSCME is commonly pronounced AF-smee and is short for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University’s maintenance, dining services and police employees who comprise AFSCME Local 1094 have ratified a new contract.

Employees will receive a 1.75 percent increase in base salary and a one-time $90 payment in the first year of the agreement. Their salaries will increase by 2 percent in the second and third years.

Effective Jan. 1, AFSCME will move to the same health care plan approved earlier this week by the university’s technical and office professionals (UAW Local 1050). Some of the plan changes will include increases to health care deductibles, co-insurance and out-of-pocket maximum amounts.

The contract is contingent upon approval by the NMU Board of Trustees.
